What is GLS?

GLS or GLS Group is an accumulation of several courier delivery services working under one roof. It was founded in 1989 (by Rico Back) and is today headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Initially, GLS operated under the name German Parcel which was a collection of 25 freight forwarders. A decade later, the company was acquired by Royal Mail and officially took on the name Global Logistics Systems or GLS. Today, the company has approximately 250,000 customers and offers domestic/cross-border B2B and B2C shipping services to brands. For domestic deliveries, most shipments are fulfilled within one day while sending packages to Europe can take anywhere between 1–4 days. Online stores in European countries, such as Belgium, Netherlands, and Italy can further benefit from express delivery services and leverage freight networks in their regions. In 2023/24, GLS fulfilled 905 million parcels, showcasing its prominence in the logistics industry.
